When Share Six started up in March, Katherine Cobert of Cobert Photography was one of the initial bloggers to join the group. We thought we would share with you a bit more about Katherine
Tell us a bit about yourself? and Are you a hobbyist or a pro?
I am an extroverted introvert and perfectionist. I am fairly crunchy and dream of one day living off of the land and being primarily self sufficient. We homeschool our two kids. I LOVE to travel and the outdoors. I love to play the piano, sing and do crafts, and I love chocolate and icy coffee drinks (yes, I know, those aren’t very crunchy). I am a professional portrait photographer, but I love to photograph nature and local theater (my kids are heavily involved with theater) as a hobby.
What will we find in your camera bag?
My main gear is a Canon 60D, 50mm f/1.4, 100mm f/2.8 L IS, 70-200mm f/2.8 L IS II, and 11-16mm f/2.8 (I have a few other random lenses, but the ones listed are the ones I use the most.)
Who inspires you?
There isn’t actually a specific person who inspires me. Life is what inspires me, everything around me, from the antique items that belonged to my grandparents and great grandparents to the scenery around me, the way the light glistens off the water, to my adventurous kids. I LOVE life and there is so much inspiration to be found in just living.
What inspired you to pick up your camera initially?
Initially I was inspired as a child by looking through my grandparents’ National Geographic magazines. They created this sense of longing in me to travel and capture the world around me. Once I hit high school and joined the yearbook staff, I picked up a camera and never looked back.
Photoshop or Lightroom? and why that choice?
Photoshop, simply because that was what my husband had for his work. So I delved in. Photoshop, ACR and Bridge have been more than sufficient for my editing needs.
If you had to choose one area of specialization what would that be and why?
If I were to specialize in one area of photography, I would probably choose high school seniors. I love their creative ideas, and I love working with them to capture who they are.
