Lynne of Lynne Grant Photography chose the theme {Winter Light} and we were all stunned by Stacie’s amazing photograph.  So I took a bit of time to catch up with Stacie and learn a little bit more about her.  You can find Stacie on Instagram at @staciezphotography

Tell us a bit about yourself?

I’m a boy mom to three (ages 12, 8, 7), been married for 14 years, and I also have taught full time as a third grade teacher for 14 years.

Are you a hobbyist or a pro?

I have been shooting professional sessions since 2015. My client work is family lifestyle and senior sessions.

“Brother Hunting” this image explains my household…when you have three boys someone is always hunting or fighting with a brother.  I used a copper ring for the flare.

Tell us a bit about your photography gear.

I have two Nikon d750 bodies.  Then I have a 70-200mm f2.8 zoom, a 35mm f1.4, and a 45mm f2.8 tilt shift- all Nikkor lenses.

What is the lens do you not have but you desire to have the most?

OH so many of them!!! For my personal work I would love to have a wider lens like the 24mm or 24mm tilt shift.  My 45mm tilt is so fun to get creative with so I know I would love the 24mm tilt shift.  For my client work I could probably shoot all my family sessions with a 24-70mm zoom so that would be an awesome lens to have.

“Love His Giggles” I love to shoot REAL portraits of my boys

What makes you pick up the camera when you don’t feel like it?

LIGHT! I’m always drawn to low light or high contrast settings.  A stream of golden light running through my house always inspires me.  I also can’t resist shooting my boys playing outside and being boys!  I also think it’s really helpful to set personal project goals for yourself and continually work toward those.

staciezphotography-lakehouse-swing[19868]

“Lake House Swing”  this is a special spot for our family and a regular series I try to shoot each time we visit my parent’s lakehouse.  That reflection is from a plain old patio table!

Film or digital?

Definitely digital! Way back in high school I learned photography basics and shot with a Cannon AE1. The dark room process is too tedious and time consuming.

Black and white or color?

My heart always goes to color.

Lifestyle or traditional?

My personal work is documentary, and my client work is mainly lifestyle.

staciezphotography-chalk-with-my-crazies[19869]

“Chalk with my Crazies” part of my P52 from last summer – this image reminds me why I love personal projects and how much fun we had together that afternoon!

What personal projects are you working?

I have successfully completed two P365s – been there done that…wouldn’t do one again. Don’t get me wrong, I love the 365 process, there’s just something magical about the reflection & growth but they are so time consuming. The last two years I have committed to doing P52 self portrait series to ensure (yes sometimes even force myself) to get in the frame with my littles (who aren’t very little anymore).  As far as daily shooting, I just try to let the light lead & inspire me.

“Birthday Breakfast Burrito” this is of my Christmas birthday boy- we do a birthday breakfast for him each year so this shot has became a double exposure (Christmas light) tradition

Most important thing they learned about editing.

Definitely to nail your image in camera!  Have a vision of your final image when you shoot it.  For example, if you want moody you can underexpose your image properly & save yourself time editing.  I’ve also learned that editing takes a lot of practice which is why 365s are awesome!  Currently I only edit with LR and I love the speed of my workflow.  Though, someday I have goals to learn certain aspects of PS with the goal of kicking an image over to add some magic.  For now though, I have to find ways to shoot my magic in camera.  My favorite ways to do this are making the most of a reflection, using a prism, copper ring, or using in-camera double exposure.

“Basketball in the Clouds” I used a prism under my lens for this shot, those clouds were just epic! God make the most beautiful backgrounds!

Thank you Stacie for sharing your stunning work with us.  You can view Stacie’s instagram page by clicking here.

We have about 2 more days for you to submit your {Color} images for a chance to be featured as the banner on the Facebook page and web page, as well as to do an interview highlighting who you are.  We would love to see your images.

Guest Highlight: January 2018: Winter Light

Lynne Grant chose the theme Winter Light for the month of January.  Lynne knows well what winter light looks like in the cold of Scotland.  Take some time to check out her Facebook page, Lynne Grant Photography.

It seems like Facebook did something strange and I am still not sure whether it has been fixed but the sharing on Facebook has been quite once again.  Instagram had 246 posts shared on the theme.

Lynne chose an image submitted by @staciezphotography and she had this to say about Stacie’s image:

“This image stopped me in my tracks, wow what’s not to love about it. I adore the silhouette, but most of all that gorgeous dream-like light and stunning array of colours in the evening sky. Beautifully done.”

Congratulations Stacie, your image will be featured as the banner to the Facebook page as well as the webpage.

Oh boy, with the temperatures as they are today, Winter Light, is the perfect topic for us this month.  Lynne of Lynne Grant Photography  chose this theme, and given that she lives in Scotland, and having visited Scotland myself, I know that she must see some amazing Winter Light each day.   Brr is all I can say, along with I cannot wait to read the blogs.

To view the blogs click on the images to go the the artists page or click on the first image and follow the links in the blogs.
